We are a homeschooling family of 8 who recently moved from the city to live out some of the pioneer books we’ve read. We are learning to farm the natural way and embrace the pure country life. We currently have chickens, ducks, guineas, two milk goats, two farm cats, and two dogs. We have a small orchard that we hope will become more productive soon and we have a small garden consisting of raised beds and pyramids. We hope to have our greenhouse operational by this fall. We are committed to growing things without chemical pesticides, herbicides, hormones or antibiotics. We are big proponents of recycling and re-purposing things in an attempt to conserve and protect our environment. We free-range our chickens and other poultry and only supplement with minimal grain during the winter months. Our children take great pride in doing many of the chores around our 14 acres. They do all the feeding and watering and gathering. We hand scrub our eggs in order to maintain the water-soluble protective membrane naturally present. The profits from our sales here will go to our children who are saving for various trips and treats! I think they do good work and deserve a chance to be rewarded and to see the value others place on what we are living out here on the mountain.
